Linden Flower Tea vs. Camomile Tea: Which is Better?

When considering the benefits of both camomile and linden tea, it should be stated that they are best utilized for very different conditions. Camomile tea has long been recognized for its ‘sleep enhancing’ properties, while some also promote linden tea to aid sleep. However, there are divisions in opinion regarding the use of linden tea prior to going to bed.

Best uses for camomile and Linden tea

Linden tea has been used in Europe for many years as a remedy for those suffering with winter cold misery. Symptoms which can benefit from the use of linden flower tea include blocked noses, chest phlegm and headaches. Breathing difficulties may be improved so as to allow for a better nights sleep for the cold sufferer. Camomile tea contains antioxidants which are proven to induce ‘sleepiness’ and so assist in providing a good nights sleep. Many people believe that a cup of camomile, before retiring to bed each evening, can improve the chances of ‘a good nights sleep’.

Brewing camomile

Camomile is available as loose leaf tea and also in tea bags. The loose tea should be placed in an infusion device, if available. In the event that an infusion device is not available then the tea should be poured into the cup through a strainer. The tea should be placed in the pot and covered in freshly boiled water. The brewing, or steeping, period should be around 5 minutes. However, this length of time can be changed to suit the taste of the individual consumer. Once poured out into the cup, the tea can be drunk in its natural state while sugar, lemon or honey may be added to appeal to a particular taste.

Brewing linden

Tea bags and loose leaf tea are available for the brewing of linden tea. The steeping period for this tea is generally considerably longer than for camomile. A period of 10 to 15 minutes is usually recommended, though this will depend on the individual. The tea can be consumed without any additions though many people will like to add a squeeze of lemon or a spoon of honey to the cup.

Benefits of the two types of tea

The two types of tea may be used for very different purposes. Healthline suggests that linden tea may be beneficial in promoting relaxation, fighting against inflammation, pain reduction, as a diuretic, reducing blood pressure, easing digestion problems and may help with sleep, although there are differing opinions concerning the benefits of linden tea with regard to sleep. Camomile is widely regarded as a useful aid to sleep. Further benefits may include reducing inflammation, helping to slow the progress of osteoporosis, lowering of blood sugar levels and the reduction of menstrual pain.

In conclusion

It would appear that there are proponents of both types of tea and that there is some evidence to suggest that camomile is likely to be useful in providing a person with a peaceful night’s sleep. However, it is less clear if Linden flower tea will be suitable for sleep purposes. There do seem to be benefits to using linden tea as a cold remedy and for assisting with reducing issues of inflammation and mild pain. Camomile has been used regularly, for many years, by people who wish to obtain a sound sleep. It would appear that this product does have beneficial properties and does not cause any unfortunate side effects. Both of these products are available from an online tea and coffee shop.
